Empower: Giving authority or right to someone.

To the society, (especially the men)

For quiet sometime I've been reading all the possible comments and posts AGAINST the #DeepikaPadukone featuring video,  #MyChoice and the whole concept of "sex" has been put in light and is been criticised so much that to a point where it doesn't makes sense.
The video was highlighting that a woman has a right to make her own decisions, whatever it maybe. She can love, lust or feel nothing at all. It has the message of setting her free and accepting her for the way she is.

You're not supposed to dominate her.
^ THIS was the message!

Yet, my dear men of India, you're doing it again :) You're setting the rules of "what message shoyld be sent" to other girls.

Putting light on "sex outside the marriage, no sex at all, loving temporarily, lusting forever" simply brings back the issue of how SEX IS STILL A TABOO. And is talked about, only and only in the negative sense.
"YOUR MIND IS A CAGE, SET IT FREE. "

And if not like this, I request to tellme how do we empower women?

Yours-
A woman, not a servant.

Dress like a Parisian

What to do when your crush doesn't notices you? You go to PARIS!
Sabrina, the classic movie, which casts Audrey Hepburn will stay with you, for the fashion that it shows is totally classy. Hepburn insisted on choosing the costumes for the role herself and we can say- she did a REALLY good job. The costumes fit her and enhances the beauty of her figure. Givenchy, has done justice to this gorgeous woman.

“His are the only clothes in which I am myself. He is far more than a couturier; he is a creator of personality.”

The five looks of Sabrina are enchanting, simple and very elegant.

This is when you see Sabrina turning from a normal girl to a sophisticated woman, when she waits for her father to receive her. As she was to select the costumes herself, she was advised to choose charcoal black or blue, rather than dark black colour.
What caught my eye: That hat!

This gown by Givenchy compliments Audrey totally. It's as beautiful as she is, and the way she carries it, proves that it's made for her.
What caught my eye: The embroidery

A chequered shirt with shorts (cute!) for sailing with Linus (Bogart) was definitely a good idea for it's comfortable and stylish at the same time.
What caught my eye: Those shorts. They are stylish and cute.

This black cocktail dress with ballerina skirt is admirable! To me, she looks really adorable when she's wearing that dress with a boat neck and bows. The combination of structure and flow.
What caught my eye: The little detail in the back of the dress. It V shaped back and looks gorgeous.
And the hat.
This top to bottom black ensemble is simple, yet chic!
What caught my eye: Simplicity!

Fabulous Fifties' Love

What are we doing today? We are going back to the fabulous fifties. And so, I watched this film-Sabrina, casting eternal beauty, Audrey Hepburn and the dashing Humphrey Bogart and William Holden as the protagonists.
Sabrina: [writing to her father] I have learned how to live, how to be in the world and of the world, and not just to stand aside and watch. And I will never, never again run away from life. Or from love, either.

The very wealthy family of  Larrabees  which include two brothers- The elder brother, Linus Larrabee (Humprey Bogart), and the younger, David Larrabee (William Holden), are introduced in the opening scene. The two, very handsome brothers are contradictory to each other, whether be it in the terms of marriage, success or their overall personality. Then we find Sabrina (Hepburn) on a tree, carefully watching David and the girl he is dancing with.
Sabrina: I hate girls who giggle all the time.
Sabrina has a long time crush on David, which makes her envy of every girl he sees him with. David never notices Sabrina and to him, she's always been a "nobody". The next day is big for Sabrina as she is heading towards her new life in Paris. (Yes, PARIS!). And she is NOT very happy with this decision. ( I know, it's hard to digest) So, she leaves a suicide note in her father's room and goes off  to die when Linus saves her.
Been two years, and Sabrina returns. Oh! you should see such a lady she looks now. Very elegant, beautiful and very, very classy.( Givenchy did it right!) David takes a turn and now he has fallen head over heels for her. (Who wouldn't, anyway) There comes the story of THE MERGER. David is going to have his fourth marriage with Elizabeth (Martha Hyer) which would help the Larrabee business to soar higher. Well, but David is in love with Sabrina and denies the marriage proposal. To keep the merger going, Linus has a plan. The movie revolves around how Linus helps Sabrina get over David.

What I love about this movie:

One) Sabrina herself. Audrey Hepburn will make you speechless, she is that beautiful and elegant! How can I NOT love this icon!

Second) Humprey Bogart, and his irresistible personality.

Third) The fifties' fashion. We'll discuss it in the next segment.

Genius and melancholic love.

The story of movie, Eternal Sunshine Of Spotless Mind talks about the love between two people. Begins with a sad story, which ends with hope. The music of this film is beautifully crafted which do justice to the story completely.  The music composer is Jon Brion and no doubt he did his very best. The theme song, when you listen to it, speaks out to you as a story, a story of love that is lost. Lata Mangeshkar's pop song has been featured in the movie  ( remember when Joel and Clementine have a drink at Clem's apartment? ) which I love simply for, one) her voice, two) lyrics. So, when you'll be searching for the music of this movie on Youtube, you won't feel uplifted but relaxed and you'll feel the stillness.

Coming on to my favourite song and it's analysis:
It's Everybody's gotta learn sometime, by Beck. I just happen to come across the fact that it wasn't Beck's song. The original song is by The Korgis which was released in 1980 and so they were the one's who composed and sung this beautifully written song. I can't really choose which version I like. I love both equally! The lyrics go like this:

Change your heart
Look around you
Change your heart
It will astound you
I need your lovin'
Like the sunshine

Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime
Everybody's gotta learn sometime

The song's being played not just once, but thrice in the entire movie. Beck's version has the impact as the film ends. Oh yeah, it got me sobbing. It goes well with the message  that is being conveyed in the movie. No matter how many mountains you climb, no matter how rich you are, no matter how  much you achieve, one thing is what we all need-LOVE.  Love which is like a sunshine, every morning and every day. Change your heart, change the perspective. Not that we do not know it, it's a matter of do we apply it? No, we probably don't. The truth is, nobody knows everything. There's always going to be a time when it comes down to us and we put the blame on others without realising the fact that we changing ourselves can bring a lot of difference, instead of we, trying to change others.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaI1sLqFOuE

Hence it is:
Change your heart, it will astound you
Bottom line: Similar to the movie are the songs-Full of lessons and somewhere hope.

Popular culture?

Hola amigos! I'm learning spanish! Yaaay! Anyway, it's pretty much popular now.
POPULAR. Ever wondered about this word? Popular movie, Popular celebrity, popular music, popular fashion, a popular hit! Where did it come from? When did we start using it?

Today, I'll be writing about Popular culture or, pop culture.
Why should I write about popular culture anyway?

Remember the last post about the movie Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind? Remember Clementine? That's how I want to connect it.

Her ever changing hair colour ( which I really LOVED) from Blue ( she referred it to as 'Blue Ruin') to Revolutionary Green brings up the topic of Pop culture! Also, not just the hair colour, if we have a look at her outfits, that are colourful and totally reflect her personality.

What is it? When did it begin? How did it begin? Who started it? How did he start it?
Phew! I have an endless list of questions with me
Pop culture is basically a collection of ideas, thoughts, perspective, images of the mainstream population.
It was the influence of bloomers (1950s) who had the buying power which led to the Pop culture. soon after it spread, swinging sixties was the time, something like Pop Art came.
1980s was the time when this word "Popular" became too mainstream and soon everybody was using it. Now, not so surprisingly we are part of it in form of internet, social media site, communication, or any sort of media. Popular culture is what everybody is doing, it's very general to be precise.

Moving forward to the  Pop art.
Originated in 1960s, Pop art became popular and Andy Warhol, the very well known name in the industry is considered as the father, was the leading figure in this field. Began with the very basic and popular things such as Campbell soup cans (1968) and icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Andy took the industry with a storm and was a known figure by then. Slowly and gradually,a movement that started in Britain had spread to various other countries.
I don't mean this, but I am going to say this anyway. I don't really think of pop art and serious art as being that far apart.-Twla Tharp

Roy Lichtenstein, was an American pop artists known for his boldly coloured parodies of  advertisements and comic strips. One of his very famous paintings was of the drowning girl which was painted with oil synthetic polymer paint on canvas.
Pop art looks out to the world. It doesn't look like a painting or something, it looks like itself. - Roy Lichtenstein

Meet me in Montauk

How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! / The world forgetting, the world forgot / Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! / Each prayer accepted, and each wish resign'd. - Alexander Pope.

The quote from the poem "Eloisa to Abelard" by Alexander Pope quoted by one of the characters explains the title of the movie-Eternal Sunshine Of Spotless Mind. Now, before I explain you the meaning, let's have a quick brief about what the movie is all about. It's a beautiful and genius love story of two people-Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine ( Kate Winslet ), no jokes about her name though! ( watch the movie to understand that joke)
Joel, is an introvert, scared guy who writes his journal and keep shush most of the time.
If I could explain Joel in a quote, it would be-"Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating". On the contradictory, we have Clementine, who's outgoing and is known for her "impulsive" nature.
Quote to explain Clem-"I don't need nice. I don't want myself to be it, I don't need anybody else to be it at me"
Love springs between these two but gradually they enter the dark side of their relationship and things get out of control. This is when Clementine decided to ERASE Joel. (Oh yes, she actually did it!) All the memories related to Joel are erased and now he is a total stranger to her. She cannot even recognize him as he gifts her a valentine present. Heartbroken and surprised by this, Joel decides to visit Lacuna (place where it's done) and ask for the process of erasing Clementine. There begins the beautiful journey when he realises that it wasn't just the bad and sad part where the two are seen arguing all the time was going to be taken away but also the memories that he had cherished with Clem were to be gone. He tries hard NOT to let her go, but eventually she does. But as they said, it's possible to erase from mind, but erasing from heart is a different story. You just can't so it. The tapes are returned back and both of them find each other to be accepting their respective flaws.

Coming back to the title, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Spotless mind- Mind without hatred, love or any judgement. That will only happen when you also erase the memories. then, Eternal sunshine- metaphor for happiness forever. Combine these two and you get the title. Reread the quote :
How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! / The world forgetting, the world forgot / Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! / Each prayer accepted, and each wish resign'd. - Alexander Pope.

In short, "Ignorance is bliss". This is what he conveys.
Another quote by Alexander Pope in the movie :
Blessed are the forgetful, for they get better even of their blunders.
This is when Joel is going through the erasing process.

Coming on to the thing I really love about this movie:

One) It's a love story with a twist, which isn't sugarcoated at all.

Two) The poster-This shows the perfection in the couple's chemistry and the imperfection or the flaw as the crack on the ice! ( You may see it differently, but it's my take on it.) Both of them go along. No relationship will be perfect. But you still choose each other, accept each other.

Three) The soundtrack that steals my heart-Everybody Gotta Learn sometime (Beck) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3xj2i_6oGM
Not just the music, EVERY. DAMN. WORD. of this song is love.
" I need your loving, like a sunshine."

Four) I SIMPLY LOVE THE STORY! and how they get back together.
The last few lines:
Joel: I can't see anything that I don't like about you.
Clementine: But you will! But you will. You know, you will think of things. And I'll get bored with you and feel trapped because that's what happens with me.
Joel: Okay.
Clementine: [pauses] Okay.

I love this movie for the concept of no matter how bad the situations get, and no matter how cruel you are to each other, when two people are in love, they will always find a way back home. Because deep down you know no other person will care for you and look after you the same way.
Anyway hey, watch for the twist! It's not just Joel's and Clem's story, we have another couple who have had an history. ( I'm NOT revealing that for sure!)

Also, the music Joel wakes up to- Theme song by Jon Brion. Well, it adds melancholy but it's surreal. Do listen to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI-YR4LBzL0

That's all for this brilliant movie! Watch this space for more analysis.

Night Night.

BEGIN IT!

Let's begin with the thought of starting this blog which had occurred to me several times before. Every now and then, I used to wonder what would be the theme, what is that "something" that really intrigues me, what would I love to write about, everyday? Well, it was movies for sure. After the deep conversation I had with myself, I picked out my favourites and wished to analyse it. In short I wanted my favourite things to be put on the blog-Music, movies, fashion and places I wish to travel. I pondered over the thought and asked myself-Will somebody read it? Will they be interested in it? Does something like this already exists or not? What if I don't make it? (OMG! I didn't know I was such a pessimist!) Does it have to be very formal? ( I don't want to be formal. No!)

These were the thoughts that stood in my way like a wall and stopped me from taking this first step. But, today, I sat down with my friend and doodled everything I had ever wanted. Not so surprisingly, blogging was one of those. Without any second thoughts, I decided to begin it! Now you know what I want to share with all of you. You know how I got here, and still, you ask me the reason I want to do it? It's simple--I want to share all the knowledge that I've got with you, each one of you. I'll give you everything I know, you give me everything YOU know. Let's make new friends?

Anyway, Lesson I learnt today-Break the wall that stands between you and your dream. BEGIN IT! Trust me, it's easy and it feels great! (I'm smiling right now.)
